I ran this kit for a little over a year before selling it. As mentioned the hardware could have been better. I ended up making my own transom mount and adding electric trim. I also added extra supports from the case to the shaft. This kit is great for the money and a great starting point for a surface drive. I never broke a prop but I did snap a chain in deep silt. To tell you where I stand with mud skipper I replaced my old kit with the newer belt style.
Ms surface drive

The parts seem good quality but there are some areas that need improvement. First thing is the hardware seems cheap and not that great quality, alot of the bolt holes are too big for the washers included in the kit. I just thinking a little more though could have went into it. The second thing is the transom mount doesn’t really have a big enough grip for how heavy the kit and motor are. I wish it gripped a bit deeper onto the transom. I have a vary overbuilt transom and my first trip out with it the mount started to slip off even though i had it as tight as I could possibly get it. Its just sense it clamps at the vary top 2” it just didn’t want to hang on. I think if the transom clamp came down 6-8” it would be alot more solid because it was barely hanging on by the end of the day, it wrecked my transom and bent the bolts and almost fell off on the drive home. I didn’t give it a bad rating because all the actual moving parts are great quality and easy to put together, and im sure it works right out of the box for alot of peoples boats but for some reason it was a real rough day on the lake for me. My suggestion is a bigger transom mount and get some higher quality hardware and it would be a 5 star product!
